Who Are We?

Project Dear Students is a youth-led nonprofit founded in November of 2021 that strives to inspire connection, communication, and collaboration in school communities. Through our growing collection of handwritten letters, PDS works to connect educators and students through the power of words, one letter at a time.

Our Process

1. Collecting the letters Through our outreach and partnership systems, we partner with school districts and youth-led bodies to gather heartfelt letters from educators throughout their community. This can happen on any scale, from a single school to a large school district or county. Letters are collected anonymously via an online form for privacy and legal security.
2. Compiling a handbook After our collection period is over, we compile all of the community-sourced letters into a singular handbook and distribute printed copies to the community. We have a number of handbook designs that can be selected from; we also take custom requests for a price (email us for more information)!
3. Going above and beyond Not only will we share the letters with the local community, but we will also take them above and beyond (with special permission from our educators). We have an ongoing initiative to publish a book filled with words from educators throughout the nation as well as platforms such as this website and social media that highlight letters daily. The more people touched, the greater the impact!
4. Looking into the future Anyone can join us on our journey by signing up for our newsletter and supporting us through one-time or monthly donations. As we grow, we will plant more seeds of warmth and connection, namely educator grants/student scholarship opportunities, school club systems, community building activity guides, and more! We may also have internal positions open soon for both educators and students… 😉
